Properties
Non-toxic, flammable, yellow powder. It is an allotrope of sulfur, called μ-sulfur, existing in a highly polymerized form, and insoluble in carbon disulfide and other solvents. μ-sulfur is unstable and can gradually transform into cubic sulfur; at room temperature, 50% transformation occurs over several weeks, while at 80°C, the transformation takes only minutes. Therefore, stabilizers are needed to slow down the transformation rate.
