Crosslinking Agent TAIC Powder

Crosslinking Agent TAIC Powder

TAIC Powder is a free-flowing white powder form of the crosslinking agent TAIC, containing 70% active TAIC adsorbed on 29% precipitated silica as an inert carrier. It delivers the full crosslinking performance of liquid TAIC while removing the drawbacks of the viscous liquid form: accurate and clean dosing, easy handling without stickiness or caking, rapid and uniform dispersion in rubber and polymer matrices, and reliable storage stability.

Description
Technical Parameters

Product name: Crosslinking agent TAIC (Powder)

CAS NO.: 1025-15-6

Molecular Formula: C12H15N3O3

Molecular Weight: 249.27

Product form: Free-flowing white powder

Structural formula:

product-208-109

product-381-381

Chemical Properties

TAIC contains three allyl functional groups, which exhibit the general properties of aliphatic olefins, such as various addition, homopolymerization and copolymerization reactions, and the Prins reaction. Under peroxide initiation, TAIC is more prone to undergo polymerization than other allyl compounds. TAIC Powder retains the full crosslinking activity of liquid TAIC, with the TAIC active content adsorbed on an inert silica carrier, while providing much easier handling in rubber compounding.

Physical Properties

White, free-flowing powder. Highly stable at room temperature and easy to store for a long period. Disperses uniformly and rapidly into rubber and thermoplastic matrices during mixing. Compared with the viscous liquid form, it allows accurate dosing without sticky, caking or weighing-error problems, making it ideal for both manual and automated compounding lines.

Solubility & Dispersion

TAIC itself does not dissolve in water, is slightly soluble in alkanes, and dissolves completely in aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones and halogenated hydrocarbons. As a silica-carrier-based solid, TAIC Powder disperses readily and evenly into rubber and polymer matrices during mixing, ensuring homogeneous crosslinking.

Application

  • Crosslinking agent for EVA film used in solar-cell encapsulation.
  • Assistant vulcanizer / co-agent for specialty rubbers such as EPDM, various fluororubbers and CPE, used in combination with DCP at a typical dosage of 0.5–4%, significantly shortening curing time and enhancing strength, wear resistance, solvent resistance and corrosion resistance.
  • Crosslinking of acrylic and styrene-type ion-exchange resins; requires less dosage than divinylbenzene (DVB), and produces resins with excellent anti-fouling, high strength, large pore size, heat resistance, acid/alkali resistance and oxidation resistance.
  • Modification of polyacrylates and polyalkylacrylates to improve heat resistance, optical properties and processing performance.
  • Note: dosing should be calculated based on the 69% active content.

Package and Storage

  • Packed in kraft bags with inner PE liner, net weight typically 25 kg (final packing subject to actual shipment).
  • Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place; avoid high temperature, direct sunlight and moisture; keep the container sealed to prevent moisture absorption.

FAQ

1. Why is the active content 69% instead of 99% like liquid TAIC? Is it lower purity?

No. TAIC Powder is a carrier-based formulation - 69% TAIC active ingredient adsorbed onto 29% precipitated silica, which is an inert carrier. It is not reduced purity; it simply converts the sticky liquid into a free-flowing powder. Liquid TAIC is 99% active. Dosage must be calculated on the 69% active content.

2. Will the silica carrier affect the final rubber properties?

At typical dosages the effect is minimal - precipitated silica is a conventional reinforcing filler widely used in rubber. For general rubber compounds (EPDM, fluororubber, CPE, etc.) the powder form works well. However, for optical- or purity-critical applications such as transparent products or EVA photovoltaic encapsulant film, liquid TAIC is the preferred choice.

3. Does TAIC Powder disperse evenly, and does it cake during storage?

Yes, it is free-flowing and disperses uniformly and rapidly in the rubber matrix during mixing, eliminating the sticky handling and weighing errors of the liquid form. Keep the package sealed in a dry place to prevent moisture absorption and caking.
