Rubber Protective Wax

Rubber Protective Wax Manufacturer & Supplier for Rubber Compounding

Rubber Protective Wax is a paraffin and microcrystalline wax blend used in rubber compounds to protect vulcanized rubber against ozone attack and environmental weathering.
After vulcanization, the wax gradually migrates to the rubber surface and forms a protective film. This surface layer helps reduce ozone-related cracking and weathering damage. Its effectiveness depends on wax composition, molecular weight distribution (MWD), migration rate, and service temperature.

Product Types & Grades

Rubber Protective Wax H3241

H3241 is a blend of selected paraffins and micro-waxes with a broad molecular weight distribution.
Its relatively slow migration rate allows a protective film to form gradually on the vulcanized rubber surface. The film remains stable at temperatures up to approximately 50°C and offers resistance to dynamic stress.

Rubber Protective Wax H654

H654 consists of fully refined paraffin wax and microcrystalline wax with a medium-wide molecular weight distribution.
It migrates toward the rubber surface at a medium-fast rate, forming a continuous protective film stable from approximately -10°C to 50°C. During migration, H654 can also transport antiozonants and antioxidants toward the vulcanized rubber surface.

Applications

Tire Manufacturing

Used in tire compounds to help prevent ozone-related surface cracking. The choice between H3241 and H654 depends on the required migration rate, formulation, and expected service conditions.

Conveyor Belt Manufacturing

Applicable to rubber conveyor belts exposed to outdoor environments and mechanical stress. Wax migration and protective film stability are important considerations when selecting the appropriate grade.

Cable Sheaths

H654 is suitable for rubber cable sheaths requiring surface protection against ozone and weathering influences.

Molded and Extruded Rubber Products

Both grades can be evaluated in technical rubber components such as profiles and other molded or extruded products exposed to environmental aging.

Performance & Quality Control

The performance of rubber protective wax depends on its composition, molecular weight distribution, migration behavior, and compatibility with the rubber formulation.
Key technical considerations include:
Wax Composition: Paraffin and microcrystalline wax proportions influence the migration characteristics and protective film formation.

Congealing Point: H3241 has a specified range of 63–68°C, while H654 has a range of 61–67°C.

Surface Migration: H3241 forms a protective film at a slow rate, while H654 has a medium-fast migration rate.

Dispersion: Both grades are supplied in flakes and should preferably be added at the beginning of the mixing cycle.

Mixing Temperature: The mixing temperature should exceed the wax melting point to support proper incorporation into the rubber compound.

Manufacturing & Quality Infrastructure
Hydrocarbon Fractionation: Advanced distillation columns separate narrow-cut hydrocarbon fractions, preventing broad molecular weight tails that cause premature or erratic blooming.

Analytical Testing: In-house laboratory equipped with gas chromatographs (GC) for precise carbon chain profile mapping, automated penetrometers, and controlled-temperature ozone cabinets for lot validation.

Regulatory Compliance: Manufactured in alignment with EU REACH pre-registration standards, RoHS directives, and relevant food-contact material guidelines (where applicable).

FAQ

Q: What is Rubber Protective Wax used for?

A: Rubber Protective Wax is used in rubber compounds to help protect vulcanized rubber against ozone attack and environmental weathering. It migrates to the rubber surface and forms a protective film that helps reduce surface cracking. Typical applications include tires, conveyor belts, cable sheaths, and technical rubber products.

Q: What is the difference between H3241 and H654?

A: H3241 contains selected paraffins and micro-waxes with a broad molecular weight distribution and slow migration. H654 contains fully refined paraffin wax and microcrystalline wax with a medium-wide molecular weight distribution and medium-fast migration. The suitable grade depends on the required film formation rate and application conditions.

Q: What is the recommended dosage for Rubber Protective Wax?

A: For tire compounds, the published recommended dosage is 1–4 phr. For other rubber compounds, the dosage can be up to 10 phr, depending on the formulation. Actual dosage should be confirmed through laboratory testing.

Q: How should Rubber Protective Wax be added during mixing?

A: Both H3241 and H654 are supplied in flake form. Addition at the beginning of the mixing cycle is recommended to support dispersion. The mixing temperature should exceed the wax melting point to ensure proper incorporation into the compound.

Q: What is the shelf life and recommended storage condition?

A: The stated storage stability is three years when the product is stored at temperatures not exceeding 35°C. Keep the original packaging sealed in a cool, dry location. Higher temperatures may cause caking, although the published product information indicates that this does not impair performance.

Q: Can you provide product samples and technical documents?

A: Buyers can request product samples for formulation evaluation and obtain the applicable TDS, COA, and SDS. Sample quantities, document availability, MOQ, and delivery arrangements can be confirmed when submitting an inquiry.
