Properties

White crystal or powder, specific gravity(25°C)1.27, melting point 199-122°C; sublimated when heated to 230˚C,nofusion and partly decomposed when sublimation; slightly volatilized in low temperature;
decomposition point 263°C, flash point 250°C. non-toxic, no odor, irritant to skin; soluble in water(weak basic), alcohol, chloroform, dichlormethane, carbon tetrachloride, not soluble in diethyl ether.
Mode ofaction:
HMT-80 is a slightly basic accelerator for slow vulcanization . It causes the cure to start almost as soon as it has been added. The rate of cure as a whole is fairly slow . HMT-80 provides a high degree of cross-linking. Mixes containing HMT-80 receive activation and secondary acceleration from mercapto, sulphenamide, thiuram and dithiocarbamate accelerators. HMT-80, in combination with resorcinol,is especially used as as a formaldehyde donor for the rubber-to- metal bonding (steel cords). Rubber-to- metal bonding is favourably influ- enced by the excellent dispersion of the granulated chemical. The addi- tional use of an antioxidant is recommanded to improve the resistance to ageing of vulcanizates, whic have been accelerated by HMT-80 . Generally blooming does not occur.
