Applications of Butadiene-Pyridine Latex

Apr 17, 2026 Leave a message

The core application of butadiene-pyridine latex is as an impregnating adhesive for the reinforcing material of rubber products. Specifically, it is used in fiber cords, fabrics, and ropes for products such as tires, hoses, and belts, and is an indispensable supporting material for rubber-fiber composite products.

Due to the introduction of pyridine groups, polarity is enhanced. The polar nitrogen atoms on the pyridine ring can react with the organic groups on RF resin and fibers to form hydrogen bonds and dipole bonds, thereby significantly improving adhesion to synthetic fibers.

Butadiene-pyridine latex is usually mixed with a small amount of styrene-butadiene latex, and then mixed with resorcinol-formaldehyde solution to form an impregnation solution (RFL). This RFL system remains popular to this day.

Initially, the adhesive between fibers and rubber evolved from natural latex and casein to styrene-butadiene latex. After the emergence of high-strength viscose filaments, the mixture of resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) was developed.
